Google is no newcomer when it comes to killing some of the services it considers a failure. We can resemble a number of services that were shut down by the giant for not being a consensus among users. Remember Google+? Google’s social media service tried to compete with Facebook, and Twitter was shut down. Some never used Google+, but at the same time, there was a massive amount of users inside Google+ communities that saw it as a very useful tool. Still, this could not change the fate of Google+. Now, Google is killing another service that should be useful for some users – Google Travel’s trip summaries.
When the search giant kills a service, the only thing to do is search for alternatives. That happened with Google+, and Hangouts (as we used to know), and certainly will happen with the trip summaries. As per 9to5Google, the search giant will discontinue Travel’s trip summaries. It will leave you with the only option of emailing your past and future itineraries to yourself. That sounds too medieval, right? Well, you will need to search for other alternatives. The feature will go down on May 1.

The feature allows you to sort previously visited places, flight details, restaurant reservations, and hotel stays in chronological order. Through this feature, the search giant can also suggest other places that you might want to visit. It will also allow you to review specifies about your upcoming trips, such as booking numbers and flight departure times.
It will still be possible to check travel reservations in Google Maps. You can navigate to your timeline and then going to the Trips tab, you’ll be able to check the places that you’ve already visited in reverse chronological order. It’s also possible to see the snaps you took on a trip via Google Photos. So the service is not really disappearing from existence. Instead, it’s being toned down and integrated into other existing apps and services.
As per the search giant, you can still save your trip summary. You need to open the overflow menu and select the Share button. It will send all reservation dates and details to your email. Don’t confuse this with the Travel app, as it is here to stay. Google probably will keep improving this service with more features in the future.
